Mercedes Moving to Atlanta
Mercedes-Benz has recently confirmed that they will be moving its US Headquarters from New Jersey to metro Atlanta. They are scheduled to move to begin in July affecting at least 1,000 jobs and will be bringing 800 jobs and a $93 million capital investment to the people to Atlanta.
Despite attempts made by New Jersey politicians to advocate for lower operational expenses, Mercedes officials have declined offers intended to incentive the company to stay within the state. Mercedes-Benz said it’s moving in order “to better serve its growing customer base and strengthen the company’s position for long-term, sustainable growth.” Some say the reason for the move is because Daimler AG was offered more than $23 million in tax credits and various incentives to move to Georgia.
Now the second-largest luxury car brand in the U.S, Mercedes is part of a growing number of auto makers to head the South to take advantage of low union membership in right-to-work states, low corporate taxes and easy access to well-maintained highways, rail lines, ports and airports.
